Cheers to Sears! (and others)

I was so happy last night. I received an e-mail from mizlizzy and this is what it said:

I HOPE you have all seen the reports about how Sears is treating its reservist employees who are called up? By law, they are required to hold their jobs open and available, but nothing more. Usually, people take a big pay cut and lose benefits as a result of being called up.

Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all benefits, including medical insurance and bonus programs, for all called up reservist employees for up to two years. I submit that Sears is an exemplary corporate citizen and should be recognized for its contribution.

I suggest we all shop at Sears, and be sure to find a manager to tell them why we are there so the company gets the positive reinforcement it well deserves.

Pass it on.

Well, me being the skeptic that I am, immediately went to snopes.com and typed "Sears" into the search engine. I never pass on a story until I check you the source. Snopes is one of the best sites to check these things out.

Well, lo and behold, not only is this story true, but they have company! It seems that many companies are putting their best foot forward right now. The law reads that if you are called to active service that your employer must allow you your job back and your benifits reinstated when you return home. That is all they are required to do.

In this country, much is said against the "Corporate Americans." Well, today, I have a little bit more respect for some of them. If you would like to see a list of some that are going further than required, check Here. I am sure there are even more that are silently doing what's right.

Ever feel like you are the biggest moron that ever walked? Well, I did a few days ago. I have to tell you this because I am still laughing about it.

I paid $16.00 from Pampered Chef and bought that new fangled can opener that rounds the lid so it isn't sharp. I am always afraid the grandbabies might stick their hand into my trash so I usually wrap them in newpaper and tape it. I am also worried about the trash hauler. Well I finally got it and so I pulled a can out of the cupboard. Must have spent 5 minutes trying to open it.....

No go. Well actually, it did go. But just around and around. Didn't work. I said screw it and put the can back in the cupboard and forgot about it. Then about 8 days later, I was having mushrooms and steak, so I took out a can of mushrooms and tried again......

I still couldn't get it to work so Terry tried it a few minutes. It went around and around another 5 or six times but it still wasn't opened. So I said, no problem, I will send it back for a refund.

I don't know what posessed me to, but I took my thumbnail and pushed up on the edge of the can..... Pop! up it came. When it opens the can, you can't tell it worked. I then realized I had an opened can in my cupboard for 8 days! The one good part about this is that it was a can of green beans, so at least I didn't have an unknown oder emiting from the cupboard. I never would have figured out what it was.

I guess I'm getting old.

Later...

Later,
Cosmic
